There’s a depth to The Winter’s Tale I didn’t expect. Shakespeare plays on rogue literature spectacularly by doubling Perdita and Autolycus (see Ari Friedlander’s work). It’s a story about politics, legacy, art, and madness. Unexpectedly deeply romantic.
