This book was slow for me, and surprisingly the parts I liked the least were the overarching story about the sea voyage of the Minerva. Watching Ewan and Violet help each other love and accept themselves, and fall in love with each other along the way? That's the GOOD stuff.

Nichole Van's character arcs are unparalleled. I love seeing her characters wrestle with their insecurities, flaws, and circumstances, and truly come out changed by them. And her writing style is pure poetry. The symbolism she uses is delightful and evocative. Although the plot was slow and took me time to get through, the characters were everything, and characters are going to keep me hooked on this series.
