Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin

4.0

Brief summary - Readers ask what each animal what they hear and each time they learn about new animal sounds.
Annotation
A great read for students, who enjoy repeating the sounds that animals make. Eric Carl's illustration are wonderful. The text is easy to read and repetitive.
Age appropriateness 0-4 year olds will enjoy this book.
Connection to six early literacy skills - print awareness and vocabulary as well as phonological awareness are skills that are reinforced by this book. I like the wonderful words to describe sounds, words like "trumpeting" or "snarling" and "bellowing" are great ways to expand vocabulary.
Five practices -reading and talking, since talking is encouraged by kids repeating the sounds.
Opinion
I think this is a great book for kids to be able to interact with text and the illustrations are great.
