The Warden by Anthony Trollope

3.0

I first read The Warden as a seventeen or so year old. It certainly went over my head then and seemed a little dull -- and I think it would have again, had I not had my readerly imagination enlivened by the tv adaptation and an engagingly read audiobook version.

I think Trollope is best with the interplay of characters. The didactic sections in the narrator's voice, in comparison, were an endless slog -- although, I did enjoy parts of his diatribe on the power of a corrupt press. Clearly not much has changed...

To be honest, I liked the tv version more than the book!
