After the Quake by Haruki Murakami

5.0

Beautiful book. I wasn’t immediately hooked, I won’t lie. It took a story or two to really fall in love with the writing. I picked up this book having never read a Murakami book before, I was in for such a ride. The talent involved in winding these completely opposite stories with wildly different themes and messages around a single event is just insane. If you decide you want to pick up this book, if it’s your first book from him, my one advice is to keep your mind as open as you can. All of the stories (with maybe an exception of the first?) captured me fully. The writing is beautiful yet easy to understand. Very impactful read, definitely earned its 5 stars.
