I’m having trouble sorting out my thoughts and feelings about this book. I enjoyed the way Yoss weaved essentially individual short stories together. I often had troubled keeping my attention on the novel and felt the stories were a bit drug out. I also really had trouble with the way female characters were written. While I understand that some of this can play into the dystopian world Yoss builds, the way it was done didn’t sit right with me. Female bodies were consistently described as either something for others to receive pleasure from or as entirely unappealing and masculine.
