Si-cology 1: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty's Favorite Uncle by Si Robertson, Mark Schlabach

4.0

I dislike trashy and inane "family reality" TV shows. I avoid them like the plague.

My Stepdad and I, probably in September, saw a commercial for a new season of Duck Dynasty. We had no idea what it really was about, and I was frustrated that people were wearing these guys's shirts at school all of the time. "What's the big deal?!" I thought.

So I told Dad to load up an episode of theirs from the Free On Demand on our TV.

We were instantly hooked.

I love Duck Dynasty, unabashedly. It's a family-oriented show that is funny, intelligent, and above all functional. Everyone loves each other, everyone is very close, and at the end of the day they sit down at the table, say grace, and eat together. Of course this show has a slice of Christianity preaching in it, but it's not so heavy-handed that it makes me gag. If anything, it adds to the charm. They tell you who they are -- a very close-knit Christian family--and they don't go hog wild over their faith.

Anyway, I read this book because I have found Si to be one of my most favorite characters, next to Jeb and Phil.

Of course this book may be exaggerated a bit, but reading snapshots of Si's history and childhood and growing up, his time in Vietnam, marrying his wife, and eventual star on "Duck Dynasty" , it has only solidifed my love of him.

He is such a goofy sweetheart. He reminds me of my own grandpa, cracking jokes and making silly word puns off the top of his head. His family is never really featured in the show, so this book came as a surprise to me that he had that many grandchildren.

We also come to know the origins of that blue cup. My Dad thought he was drinking alcohol in that cooler, but nope it's iced tea. I told Dad that and he cracked a joke that it was probably spiked.. Maybe. With sugar!

If you're a fan of the show then read this book. That's all I'm saying, Jack!
