Half-Off Ragnarok by Seanan McGuire

4.0

I don't think I'm ever going to be as into this series as I am Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, but I am liking this series more and more with every installment, so that's definitely a plus! I did like Verity as the narrator of the first two books a lot, but it was fun to jump to her older brother, Alex, with this book and get a new setting and find out more about this family. It was also great to see a lot of Sarah and the aftermath of what happened to her in the previous book. And Shelby!!!! Shelby was so great.
SpoilerI was a little worried when it was revealed that she knew about cryptid stuff herself because I was liking the idea of someone in this family dating someone who had no experience with this stuff, and I was also afraid she was also going to turn out to be a Covenant member, and it seemed like it would be a little too much if both Verity AND Alex's love interests were part of that group. I was definitely glad to find out she was also working against the Covenant, and it was still fun to see her adjust to everything in Alex's world because even though she was aware of cryptid stuff, her experiences in Australia were different than Alex's in the US, so there were still a lot of things that were new for her. Also, that bit when she's talking about having been afraid Alex would find out about her and having been worried that he would stumble over something and get himself eaten was SO great and really made me wish the book had been from her perspective so we would see her impression of him before finding out he was a Price.
The romance between Shelby and Alex worked much better for me than Dominic and Verity in the previous two books (who I did grow to like, but it wasn't until the 2nd book that I really started enjoying them as a couple), and I especially loved near the end once Alex started realizing he was falling in love with Shelby. Anyways, I'm definitely looking forward to future books in this series!
