Törz is such a good writer across the board. It's hard to believe this is her debut novel, it's so well done. I loved what she was able to do with this story, balancing complex and realistic-feeling characterizations and the web of relationships between them all, with a detailed magic system and well paced and tense main plot, written in easy to read descriptive prose. She juggled all that flawlessly and kept a perfect pace throughout the whole book, wrapping things up nicely.
I think the characters are what stands out for me, each of them so realistic with a very distinct personality, driven understandably by their personal histories; the story builds on all of them across the entire story, and they grow and change in very natural ways with each other, never feeling awkward or contrived.
I hope Törz writes more novels, I'd love to read more of her writing.
