Lucy was such a Mary Sue, and she wasn't even a likable Mary Sue, so that took away from my enjoyment of this book. I did think there were a lot of interesting nods to Jane Eyre - there were clear references, but they were twisted in unique ways. Overall this was a mediocre gothic romance that is worth reading if you love the genre, but it isn't anything special.
