The format of turning this timeless take into a comic book form was something I was intrigued by and had high hopes for. Unfortunately, I felt it was a let down - the story was translated very literally in some respects in the comic form, and although that made it accurate to the original, it also made for pacing issues as the new framework wasn’t adapted to properly. However, there were some beautiful illustrations in pockets throughout the book, although the art style was a bit inconsistent.
Overall, the adaptation felt underdeveloped and messy - there was childish humour mixed in with unnecessary amounts of nudity and serious themes, which made it difficult to understand who the expected audience was.
