Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

3.5

I’m so annoyed I can’t remember how the series ends.

Spoilers? Maybe but only really for book 1 and nothing major I’d say.

This picks up straight after the first book which I appreciate with some sequels starting months or even years later leaving you to fill in the blanks.

This is very much a second book in a longer series, there’s camping, minor scuffles, character building, world expanding and battle preparing. But it’s kept interesting enough and the ending really ups the ante.

Our characters really grow and stretch and not always for the positive. Mare especially becomes colder, more calculating and almost unrecognisable at times, yet the building from the first book just about keeps you on her side with the other characters brining sense and her back to herself.

The big faceoff is not the faceoff we expect it is, as in the first book there’s a final crescendo ready to lead you into the next.

Bring on the next! I forgot how much I enjoy ya fantasy, it’s so much easier to read and yet still as gripping with the characters and story.
