As someone who has a very challenging relationship with a parent who recently received a devastating diagnosis, I felt very seen in this book. Putting aside resentment towards a parent takes so many years and it’s a tough thing to do, and I thought this book handled that beautifully.

I loved the second half of the book, the romance with Jonah, the wildness of Alaska, the relationships with Agnes and Mabel.

I found the first half to be brutally boring. Calla was so grating and embarrassing, her mother was basically the same, so was Diana. It was very predictable where the story was going. I’m glad the tone shifted or I would have had to finish as a hate read.
