Ten Things I Hate about the Duke by Loretta Chase

5.0

I was hoping the author would land this and she did....perfectly.

After the disappointment of the first book, I was looking forward to Ashmont's story.  Even though the first book was just so-so, Ashmont was such an interesting guy, I really wanted more and this delivered. His character growth was spectacular.

Duke Ashmont was the immature drunkard abandoned by his wife-to-be on their wedding day. We ended the last book with him kinda' realizing he'd been an asshole and that's why Olympia had run.  In this book, with Olympia and his best friend married, he is starting to wonder if he *might* be the problem. (Hint, hint - it's totally him.)

He meets Cassandra after he fires off a gun and causes an accident. He loves her fearless, sharp honesty. She has no problem telling him- he's a reckless jerk.

Anyway, afterwards, we begin a tale loosely based on Taming of the Shrew, but not really. Cassandra is merely honest in a way most women weren't at the time. She has clear expectations and limits. She operates with open communication which is soooo refreshing for this genre.

Overall, I loved this. Sweetly romantic, but also so nice to see the man-child grow up!
