The Old Regime and the French Revolution by Alexis de Tocqueville
4.0
4.5
This book gave me a lot of valuable information about the French Revolution and the Old Regime. I was primarily reading this book for the sake of learning about the French Revolution for my history project and I thought that it would be more focused on that, but instead, I got a lot of the Old Regime, which was interesting and useful, but not quite what I was looking for, hence the doffing of .5 stars.
Alexis de Tocqueville writes in a way that is pretty easy to understand. The translation that I was using, however, was a little faulty (i.e. it had a few double negatives that didn't make any sense whatsoever).
I was able to learn a lot of things about the French Revolution and what caused it that I hadn't learned in my prior history classes and it really made more sense than all of the other reasons that people give you for as to why the Revolution started in the first place.
This book is great for if you're studying about French history or the Revolution! I would definitely recommend if you're trying to delve deeper into the history, but if you just want a brief explanation, this will not be the book for you.

A+ on the cover art for the edition that I used! That's always a plus!
