Solid little middle grade fantasy with good world building and loveable albeit tropey characters.
For the most part, the story is predictable except for the last twist which does make me want to read the next books.
The pacing is relatively quick and the book is all in all a fun read.
I couldn’t sense any of Holly Blacks writing in this so that was a shame because I love her work and that’s how I picked this up.
This book is not comparable to adult fantasy however with junior in mind, it is a great read.
