The Egyptian by Mika Waltari

4.0

This book is basically the journal of Sinhue a physician in Thebes during the reign of Akhenaton. The story ranges over to Gaza and Syria, the war with the Hittites and a jaunt over to Crete, while always coming back to Thebes. It's a novel about the rich and the poor, about power and what it does. The novel is a Finnish classic and while the story is an Egyptian story, it is also a story of humans and what we do to one another because of religion, sex and war. It's a timeless novel that also delves into Egyptian culture.
