Heat Level: Medium-Low there's kissing and I think a sex scene, but it was completely off page and barely hinted at.
I will say this: this author's writing is beautiful. The characters were a bit flat, the plot was kind of all over the place, the romance wasn't ah-mazing, and there were a lot of parts where things just wrapped up a little bit too nicely. But. The world is rich, the writing whimsical and beautiful, and I actually cried. Cried! It kept me turning the pages even though I didn't think I was that invested. Did I mention I cried?
Overall, I really enjoyed this duology. I enjoyed the focus on family and, though I wish there was a bit more meat to the romance, I was glad that it didn't overtake the emphasis on Maia's love for the people she cares about.
