Perhaps you’ve seen the social media post asking women what they would do if they knew they were safe. Women respond with things like ‘stay out after dark’ and ‘go jogging by myself.’ ‘Curfew’ is a story woven around that very premise—men have a curfew and can be punished with prison time if they break it, but is prison time enough to deter men from harming women?

This book was fascinating. I’ll be thinking about it for quite some time. If you have any sort of triggers or discomfort around intimate partner violence or domestic violence, this may not be the right book for you. Cowie spectacularly depicted the manipulation, gaslighting and verbal abuse that is a hallmark of a toxic and dangerous relationship.
