peak character development is when gilda finally washes her dishes after months of not doing so because of depression

in all seriousness, i really enjoyed this book. which feels a bit weird to say because it’s about someone who has an overwhelming fear of death but can’t stop thinking about it. gilda is perpetually anxious, depressed, and has no idea what she’s doing most of the time or what her future will look like.

the story is written in an stream of consciousness style, told through vignettes of gilda’s day to day life and inner musings. almost as if you’re reading someone’s journal entries. the prose reminds me a lot of chemistry by weike wang, which is another one of my fav books.

definitely not a book for everyone, but it was meant for me! i will say to tread carefully if you aren’t in a good headspace given the topics addressed.
