Double Whammy by Carl Hiaasen

4.0

I've seen mention of Hiaasen for a while now for writing interesting, borderline wacky mystery novels and finally picked one up. If "Florida Man" was put into novel form, this would be it. Hiaasen crafts a well written and thought out private eye book here with a cast of characters you could only find in the backwoods of a backwards state. While I honestly found it to be just a bit too weird, that may just be particular to this book and not Hiaasen's writing as a whole. This novel is part of a series that follows the adventures and misadventures of Skink, a supporting character here who has a crazy backstory all his own. The novel here centers around the investigations of multiple murders that are related to bass fishing tournaments and and evangelical television network. I know it sounds like a silly premise, and it is, but its on that sucked me in and surprised me.
