So I'm going to do this review a little different than I normally do.

Pros: the characters(Alex is a badass, I mean who wouldn't be with the name Galaxy?), the magic system, the story line, the flashbacks to explain scenes, and the humor.

Cons: the pace, the length of the book(this was my first Leigh Bardugo book, so I'm not sure this is how her other books are, but I felt the book could have been maybe 50 pages shorter), the density, and for me personally just how long it took me to get into the book. It wasn't until about 50% that I was fully interested in it. In the beginning I was almost pushing myself to continue to pick it up, I wanted to see why everyone was so interested.

So as a first time Bardugo reader, I think maybe her YA books will be more for me. Even with the rating that I gave this novel, I will be reading more of her work in the future. :)

There are many trigger warnings for this book: child rape, drugs, murder, rape of someone under the influence, and trauma
