Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson

4.0

I've been starting, stopping, and restarting this book since around 2012. I remember starting it the first time, getting bored and decided to watch the BBC version in hopes of regaining interest. Turns out that version is so off from the book. I've read the first 13 chapters several times but always either got stuck or set it aside for too long.

So what did I think? Compared to Treasure Island (one of my favorites) Kidnapped is a harder read that requires you to read with a Scottish accent. The story itself is full of adventure, life on the run through the heather and bad politics. There was a good bit of humor and witty dialogue. I believe Alan and David made a great duo. Each had their faults- David's childish way of holding a grudge and his naive trust with his uncle and Alan's brashness, vanity, and weakness for gambling. I wish there had been a more satisfying ending concerning the uncle's punishment.

I'm so glad I can finally mark this as read! A great story but not something that can be picked up on whim.

**And apparently there's a SEQUEL???**
