This is Chaol’s book, and while I did enjoy this book, I was also sad to not read about Aelin, Rowan, and the gang. But this book is totally essential to the storyline. Don’t skip it!!
When I inevitably do a reread of this series, I think I’m going to tandem read Empire of Storms and this book. I was lucky and didn’t end up needing to wait long between books so I didn’t have to deal with the cliffhanger for long. Never mind the fact that the ending of EOS is still playing in my head weeks later.
Yrene is a great addition to the side character wheel. She compliments and challenges Chaol just as he needs, someone who truly sees him and accepts him just as he is, Lord of Anielle or no. They help each other heal, and I’m so glad he was able to accept and move on past his self-doubts.
I do like that Nesryn was also able to find her great love. The amount of couples coming out of this series makes me happy.
