Wuvable Oaf by Ed Luce

2.0

I wish I had read the character dossier first since the comic was new to me. I love Eiffel's completely horizontal five o'clock shadow, as well as the concept of Dorissey, though I was disappointed she wasn't a major player in the comics. The comic is such an interesting mixture of indie rock references (Kim Deal tribute), a sort of manga style, animal advocacy, and the gay dating scene; it makes the Castro seem way more magical than it is these days. It's so odd to see very obscure, specific Project Runway jokes, that I feel like I'm one of like 1,000 people that would get, embedded in a world that is so foreign to me (ditto the Emilio Pucci tattoos!). I'd read a Muff 'n' Top Grrrlz comic spinoff for sure. The short comic about Oaf's snacks and teeth was my favorite one.
