Those Girls by Chevy Stevens

5.0

This. Book. Was. AMAZING! A book I'd found all over tiktok with only positive feedback. And boy were they right. My high hopes for this book was greatly exceeded. I've read one of Chevy's books before (Still Missing) and it was really good as well. Going into "Those GIrls" I was expecting it to be similar to "Still Missing" as far as how the book makes you feel, story line, and all together the writing style. But boyyy, was I blown away with this one. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I finished over half of the book within 6 hours. That's rare for me considering my ADHD.

We follow three sisters. Dani, Courtney and Jess. We start off with them in a truck and on the run from something that's hinted at, but won't know for a couple more pages. After that scene, we are taken back to 3 days prior to this get away. We learn they live a rather tough life, especially after their mother had passed away. Their father is a piece of work. He's a drunk, abusive and all together just a piece of crap. We gain insight on the role each sister plays in their lives. Dani the older, Courtney the middle child and Jess the youngest. we find their father works out of town and only comes home for a week every 3 weeks. They're in one of those home weeks. They try to enjoy the last bit of freedom before they're stuck with their strict and abusive father for a week. The sisters knew he would be on his way home. Per usual, he stumbles in well after the girls had laid down to sleep. He calls from downstairs, demanding the presence of the girls with him down in the kitchen, wanting to play a game of cards. The girls knew he'd been drinking and was completely drunk. At first they're reluctant, but they're not match up against their father. They oblige him in a game of cards at the kitchen table and the girls are already on edge, the tension cutting that could be cut with a knife. Courtney did not know that her father knew she had been messing around with a married man till he starts asking questions and suggesting he knew. It then comes out and he goes after Courtney. Her sisters trying desperately to get him off her with no luck. He drags her to the bathroom and starts shoving her had in the toilet trying to drown her. They had to do something. Jess grabs a good and shoots her father. Scared of the consequences and trouble they'd be in coming clean about shooting their father, they decide to hide the body and flee.

Unfortunately this isn't the last horrible things to happen to them. The truck breaks down in a small town "Cash Creek" and some boys offer to help. They promised to get the truck up and running within a few days. They also offered a place to stay, a place for their truck and a great discount on fixing the truck. The girls had absolutely no idea of the nightmare that lay ahead. Soon the boys went from being nice, helpful and polite to complete monsters. Hiding the girls in an abandoned warehouse. The girls, for 5 whole days, were tortured and abused. Luckily, they managed to escape, however, they did not kill the boys. In search of their own truck, they met a guy who owned the bar next door to the garage of the other boys. He turns out to be their saving grace. They all move and try to start new lives. The worst happens and Jess is pregnant. The plan was to give the kid away, but jess did not. 17 years later, the girls are finally settled down and have stable lives. All till one girl goes missing. Skylar (Jess's kid) know exactly where the missing sister went to. But since Courtney is mixed in the wrong crowd, Jess and Dani knew she'd go on a bender and then go "missing" for a few days, but always came back. They didn't think anything of her disappearance and told Skylar that's what happened and all Skylar could do was wait. Skylar sets off to find her aunt and UGH! The story was so good.

I won't go any farther into details, but wanted to give a little description of what's going down. I don't want to ruin the book for somebody haha. But that ending though. Prepare your heart to be completely ripped out!
