This is an incredibly special book about love, heartache and growing up, and it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.

Taking place in Northern Ontario, this book held a lot of significance and nostalgia for me having grown up in this part of Canada. I never truly realized the power of reading a book that is so closely relatable to your own life, but it adds so much weight to the reading experience, and this book will sit so closely to me for such a long time.

This story feels so real and vulnerable. The characters are tangible and multi-faceted and that’s what makes this story work so well. The detail put into these characters and this setting brings this beautiful and emotional story to life in a really natural and effortless way.

There is also something to be said about the way Carley Fortune writes life. Every Summer After is told in two timelines, the present with our main characters as adults, and a decade in the past, as teens. We watch the characters grow up and learn to deal with big emotions and circumstances and then see them as adults after they have processed and matured. It’s really beautiful.

Overall, this is a deeply relatable book that has touched me to my very core, and will likely do the same to you. You’ll recognize yourself in the characters and their relationships, in their journey of growing up and figuring out life and love.

This is one the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given to a book.
