Ash by Malinda Lo
2.0
This books confused me. I was expecting juat another Cinderella rehashing but at every turn Lo had me bewildered and searching for the original Cinderella I've come to recognize. This of course is a good thing. In Malinda Lo's first book she does tell a Cinderella story but supplements faeries for talking mice and a huntress for 'Prince Charming.' I found this book intriguing and refreshing as compared to Disney's Cinderella, or any other Cinderella for that matter. Lo takes a new look at the old story and transforms Ash from an orphan to a princess in her own right. Though I'm still caught in the whirlwind of Lo's writing and have yet to sort out decisive feelings I would reccommend this book if you like fairy tales and and satisfying endings (not happily ever afters because those can be sickening).
