Promise Me by Jill Mansell

5.0

Do you believe in happy endings?
Not in books or fiction but in reality; because I do, not perfection, not happiness forever but finding the place where you fit, you can be yourself and be loved the way you are.
I think “Promise Me” tries to show us that home is not really a physical place but a place where you feel safe and loved.
This is the story of different characters; how their lives collide thanks to the kind and lovely Lou. After her husband passed away, she decides to move to the Cotswolds village; she doesn’t have a job or a house to live but she is positive that everything will get better if she has a purpose. Working for the eighty-year-old Edgar Allsopp is not her dream job, but, after his persistence to work for him she can’t say no… While we’ll see the friendship between Edgar and Lou grow, there are secondary characters in the book that are a big part of the story; Sammy and Remy brothers; Della and Tom; or the special Captain Oates.
Even if “Promise Me” can be categorized as a romance book, I would say more that it is a book with a heart. A book to make you smile, dream and love the people around you; friends, lovers, partners, pets…
I have to admit that I loved this book, I started it one morning and I didn’t stand up till I finished, and it has around 400 pages!
So, if you are looking for a book to lift up your mood and warm your heart, this should be your next read, believe me! So, do you “Promise Me”?
