The Wingman by Stephanie Archer
5.0
After 8 years with the wrong man, Darcy Anderson is leaving Calgary and him behind to start over with an assist from her college bestie Hayden Owens. Hayden (also a friend of her ex) is now a pro hockey player for the Vancouver Storm, and he offers to welcome her as a roomie to help her start over. She sees him as the ideal player to teach her the ropes of casual dating, and he’s not sure if he wants to help her date anyone else.
Yes, this is first and foremost a top-tier chef’s-kiss of a friends to lovers romance, but it’s also a really empowering look at a woman prioritizing herself and stepping into her own. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so down bad for Hayden Owens, but seeing Darcy step into her baddie era is a thing of beauty. Hayden is the sweet, sexy manifestation of a golden retriever MMC. He’s devoted, protective, so far gone for his woman, and the mouth on that man... *whew* The tension in this slow burn is so delicious!
Overall, I can definitely see this becoming a re-read for me when I need that hit of giggly swoony dopamine a well written slow burn gives when the couple finally reaches the fck it moment. This one gives it in heaping handfuls. This is my first Stephanie Archer book, but now I have to hurry and binge the rest of the series so I can fully appreciate all the characters (especially the foreshadowed next couple!!)
Thank you so much to Stephanie Archer and her team for this ARC opportunity!
