"you have to romanticize your life. otherwise, what else is there?"
this book really did it for me. aside from personally hitting in every possible way, it felt like a journey through water, through all the different types of water. through murky swamps and fast running rivers, through the void that is the depth of an ocean to the crystalline beaches. there was something so tangible about ro's relationships, especially the one with her mother and her parents marriage. it felt very real and the writing in regards to these relationships will haunt me but in a good way.
there is some sort of severity surrounding ro's other relationships, her friendships and other acquaintances, one doesn't seem to be that severe as if you're underwater, only to finally emerge after coming to terms with various different factors in her life. as the "threat" of people dear to ro leaving looms over herself, you feel it throughout the entire book in the writing, in ro's thoughts and actions.
this is a book i thoroughly enjoyed, especially with tiny moments such as the realization of tae and ro being the "i can fix her" meme, all the little dolores moments and the way eldest daughter/mother relationships have been portrayed.
