The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden

I wrote a review and deleted it. I can’t talk too openly about how I feel. If I speak— lol. To its credit, this book was a propulsive read until I realized where it was going. And then…like, what is this? What are we doing? How are we sandwiching erotica between unresolved issues of white guilt and also the long term and now presently cyclical impact of an ethnic cleansing??? why did we write the book this way? why did we write this book at all? Not every white author needs to center themselves in the stories of those they’ve oppressed??? the audacity to presume a love story between a victim and their oppressor without thoroughly exploring these implications effectively (little starts and stops of conversation don’t count!!!!) And a Booker nom, seriously? Miss me w that shit lol
