Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

3.0

Heathcliff: I love you in that gothic, eternal, dig-up-your-corpse-and-snuggle-it kind of way.

This book is complex - and I think once I am more familiar with the classics genre, and more used to reading this type of prose, I will enjoy re-reading this and analyzing the themes of the story more thoroughly. But even with these barriers - I still enjoyed this tale.

Sure there are romantic elements, but I think where this book really shines is as a tragedy. The complex relationship between love, cruelty, identify, and grief are explored within the relationships in this book - and while I am a 21st century gal who is spoiled by modern-romance, I still enjoyed the complex romance, lyrical prose (especially when the character is professing their love), and deeply complex and flawed characters within this story.

I am not a Heathcliff stan (am I really meant to be?) like I see some other girlies are - but I have a deep appreciation for the complexity of love, grief, and passion that is explored in his relationship with Catherine.
