Black River by Matthew Spencer

Overall, I enjoyed this story. For most of the story, it felt like a realistic look into crime journalism and crime investigations. I liked the inclusion of the private school internal dramas, and the inclusion of the main characters' backstories.
I did have an issue with the final conflicts though, as the writer had Rose Riley, the main detective, making a few choices that seemed very out-of-character for her, and out-of-character for any competent and well-trained police person.
I appreciated that the mystery was hard to figure out as the reader, but possible - I like it when I'm able to play along with the mystery, learning more and more and trying to put it together with the characters; and this book did it well.
