Simak's science-fiction is usually described as being folksy or homey. That's because he is more interest in relationships, what it means to be human, than he is in science, spaceships and rayguns. Sure there are aliens and robots in these stories but it's not about how the machinery works, it's about how mankind would work and fit in with these futuristic things.
