The Hour of the Star by Clarice Lispector

3.0

Did I just start off reading Lispector on the wrong foot? I don't know, but felt so relieved by the translator's note at the end which said that if the text sounds weird, it's because it IS like that in Portuguese as well, and the better you speak Portuguese, the harder it is to get her. However, reading it in English was not a great choice, same goes for reading her last, most acclaimed and accomplished work. I might need to read it again, but I'm not sure I will. However, she's surprising and I'm indeed curious about some other novels, but not in English, thank you very much.
