Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang

4.0

Four stars for the story of the author and her brave family. The writing is heavy and slow at times, but the story itself is an incredible story of pain, suffering, horror, and yet strength, bravery, perseverance, and hope.
I feel grateful for newfound knowledge about China, communism, Mao (+Mme Mao!). I feel nauseated and horrified at the human ability to be cruel to our fellow human beings. And I feel hope in a world where strength and hope survives despite suffering and misery.
