My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

4.0

Beautifully written, but not a page turner that I was hoping for after The Marriage Portrait/ACOTAR. This was a beautiful coming of age story but I was clearly in the mood for far more plot twists. This simply told a lovely coming of age story that examined class, sexuality, and intellect. I was not expecting Lenu to be the brilliant friend, as claimed by Lila… and maybe it’s just because it’s late but I am not sure what the shoes on Marcello’s feet represents… betrayal? The true power in their city? Stefano’s lack of genuine love for his new wife? I’m excited to find out in Book 2.
