Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales

4.0

I received an e-ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger Warnings : Phobias, misogyny, mentions of homophobia, teenage drinking.

One of my least favorite tropes out there today is the love triangle. 9 times out of 10 I find myself wishing for polyamory, or for the romantic options to get together instead. THANK YOU Sophie Gonzales.
This book was one that kept me going all day in a mad dash to finish it because I could not put it down. The characterizations are wonderful, there was nothing lax about the side-characters. The worldbuilding was immersive and honestly the perfect set-up. All in all, this is an incredibly well rounded book that hits every single one of the feelings: happiness, anger, anxiety, sadness, confusion. You're walking hand in hand with Maya and Skye and while this does have some petty drama in it, it's handled BRILLIANTLY. I do believe the author wrapped up the ending quite nicely, and the pacing was flawless. There was never a lull, and things never moved so quickly that I couldn't grasp them.
I highly recommend this book if you like other queer reads like Red White & Royal Blue, and are looking for sapphic love stories that fit into the same kind of feelings. Even though the book ended in a good place, I would love to see more from Maya and Skye in the future. I also love that we flipped the 'bachelor' on the head. Perfect. Just perfect. Don't ever change.
