This was great but also so long LOL. I felt like I had to slog through this one, just a bit. I changed it up and listened to the audiobook for the second half.
Having said so, however, it's a nice follow-up to book one. Say what you will about the Chosen One trope (was it a trope when this book was written? lol), but I think Rand is an excellent one. His denial and fight against his fate is wonderful. I saw so much of his thoughts and feelings that it feels real and honest. Fleshed out. That's the term I'm looking for. It feels like I haven't read a proper Chosen One story until this one.
If I'm being honest, I'm not happy about the ending or the lead up to it, though once I got past the "wait, what? Who are you? Why? Where? Huh??" feelings and settled in, it was exciting to read (but I still don't like how I went through some confusion when the villains popped up). There were parts kept me on my toes, and I absolutely love how some things turned out.
Unfortunately, it looks like my ship is looking like a sad mess right now. Sigh.
