Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake
4.0
**3.5 rounded up to 4**
I had such a hard time deciding what to rate this book. The characters were believable, the romance was sweet, and I love a found family trope. But my biggest hang up with this story is that Brighton really got on my nerves, and it was all the more frustrating because I loved Charlotte so much.
To start with the good:
All the other characters were so fun to read about and they all felt like they had well-rounded personalities and things that made them stand out.
This is a Christmas romance, but it's not overly obnoxious with the Christmas stuff. It's more like the story just happens to be taking place during Christmas, and it's not 100% about the holiday.
I loved Charlotte. She was someone who seems calm and collected on the outside, but is actually a nervous mess on the inside, which I feel like I can relate to. Plus I really loved her salt-and-pepper hair.
The bad:
Brighton is an obnoxious brat throughout the entire first 50% of this book. I could not stand all her whining and then she had the audacity to be pissed off at Charlotte for not wanting to talk to her, even though Brighton is the one who left her at the altar?? I don't think Brighton's reasoning was good enough and maybe that makes me an asshole but she really annoyed me. Charlotte deserved better lol.
I'm not sure if I could see myself forgiving someone if they left me at the altar in front of all of our friends and family, and after spending all that kind of money on a ceremony, when up until about 5 minutes before the wedding she hadn't really said much.
