summary: this book follows Esther as she navigates her life. it's losing herself and working to regain identity. as she goes for psychiatry sessions, she eventually ends up in an asylum. insanity in herself leads her there.
being honest, most of the book flew over my head. like, i knew what was happening, like how she transiitoned from being in college to being in an asylum, and the differences between her acquaintances and relationships in the book.
being in first-person, it was an easy read. It's a good start for classics since it's easy to comprehend.
anyways...racism....anYWAYS- its weird how she compares herself to other races when she's describing herself as ugly. and then its even worse when its towards the end of the book.... i mean i know it was the 50's and all. yk what i think i know what it is. people romanticize the bell jar alot, and whe you romanticize something you usually omit everything that's negative about it. so when disccussing and recommending it they leave out the...racism... in it. and then that results in people being surrprised. but like it was the 60s i guess. LIKE ITS COMPLICATED.
