Dead Inside by Chandler Morrison

What an absolute horror show of a book that I couldn't help but love.

It has some of the most depraved things I have ever read in it, but the black humour carries you through it all and brings some relatability to the story and characters.

To even consider reading this you are likely to of felt those feelings of being an outsider, freak, misunderstood or isolated and this book plays with those feelings.

To me, the story is about what you can do with those feelings. The brutal backdrop is great for this as it shows how awful some people are and then brings something else in to compare against. You could weigh up the morality of it all and rank them, but it's just there to illustrate that as bad, weird or messed up as you feel you are, there is definitely someone else badder, weirder or more messed up.

Ultimately I feel you are left with two options when you're on the fringes. Either use it to connect with others who relate to those feelings or wear it as a badge of honour to keep yourself away from everything and everyone. This book does a great job of exploring that.
