This often feels like a blame game where other people have to take responsibility for Allen's suffering, and I think she was at times defensive when it came to owning her privilege, but if you make progress in this memoir you'll find the book is well worth it. It feels honest or at least honest in her perception, and what a life she's had.
It's good to be reminded of what the press can make us believe and how easily they can do it, and to be reminded of the mad ups and downs she's had that are nothing to do with her celebrity status. There are many examples of this, but in particular, I felt very moved by her account of what happened with her first child and how it affected her in the long term. I'm also glad that she can share her personal experience of how cutthroat the music industry can be. On a lighter note, it was great to hear the context behind her songs, especially Smile. That song is nostalgic and still feels unique.
