Coming of age but for people who are in grad school, the art kind. It's weird in a dark-toned, enjoyable way. I think the fantasy sprawls out as the story progresses, creating branches of the mythology present in the book.
I think it touches on a lot of digging deeper into someone's subconcious and intense female friendships that I'm sure a lot of women have been through, just the ups and downs of it all. The pressure of existing in a world where you feel like you don't beling whether it's class or personality.
In a sense, it's wild and incomprihensible, like a dream you don't remember a few minutes after waking up.
