The Innocent by David Baldacci

5.0

I debated whether to give this 4 or 5 stars, bc I feel a little odd giving a thriller/suspense 5 stars, since it's not a "huge classic work of art," but this book was really good. And it's MY review, so I'm going with 5 stars.

Will Robie is an assassin for the U.S. government, and a pretty successful one, up until he gets a job that he can't complete. As he realizes people are out to get him, he crosses paths with a tough teenager who ties into the overall situation. Used to working by himself, having someone else for whom he's responsible completely throws him off emotionally.

Great twists and turns as Robie navigates the emotional world he usually shuts off to do his work and tries to figure out how all the pieces fit together. The twist at the end was shocking (even though I figured it out in the previous chapter).

I liked this character much better than Baldacci's other new one (Puller) - Robie seems more unique and more conflicted, just a more interesting person all around.

Great Baldacci book.
