very painful and resonating in the bewilderment that grief and sudden loss can bring. i thought that there was an intention and real clarity in some things being loosely threaded together, but that the consistency of quintana's childhood, wedding, and death all blended into the same for didion writing this. this really gripped me, and as a lover of her work, i think this became one of my favorites. i especially think the beginning explanation of 'blue nights' and ending were really profound.
