A satisfactory ending to a great series.
I liked seeing that Carter was jealous and petty. These Bennett boys seemed too perfect and good. Hearing that even though Carter love loved his brothers, he still felt some type of way about his place in life as opposed to theirs.
Another interesting wrinkle was just how many times Thomas Bennett messed up. The first book gets you completely on his side. We are in awe of him just like Ox. Then each successive book following that one just shows you more and more things that he did that were a little bit shady and wrong.
This last book kind of threw a little bit of dirt on everybody. Which I think was necessary.
Carter and Gavin’s story was great. I love Gavin. Ultimately, Joe and Ox’s story is my favorite, but that probably because I have a crush on Ox. There are a lot of phrases that are repeated often. Ox repeats how his dad told him he was going to get shit all his life several times in each book. Which I don’t like, but I also appreciate how it blatantly tells us how a throw away comment to a child can haunt them forever. The same thing with how Joe describes Ox’s scent. Overall I really enjoyed the series.
