I mainly got this book because of all the hype it had and as most of the very-hyped books are, it didn't live up to my expectations. Everyone said that it was absolutely amazing, and even though there were some amazing scenes, I think it had a few problems.

(This review contains some spoilers)

Firstly, I felt the romance was a little forced. Maybe it's just me, but how do 2 people who basically hate each other, then become friend-like, and then almost have sex? The relationship between Agnieszka and the Dragon is a total mess in my opinion and not in good way.

Another thing that bothered me was the special-snowflakiness of Agnieszka. She's an ordinary girl who's in no way special, she has no idea she's special, and then SHE gets chosen instead of that beautiful, kind, obviously special Kasia. As we find out later, she has unimaginable power and the only main thing I ended up remembering about it is that she makes earthquakes and the Wood is afraid of earthquakes??

The one thing I did like about the book was the start, I read six full chapters thinking where the 2nd one starts, because that's where it's mostly interesting. About 1/2 through the book, it stops being interesting. It's mainly just another trip to the Wood, and war. It just drags on until the end, which is interesting again. My favourite part was, in fact, just walking around the Wood.

Conclusion: Great book for anyone who loves magic, not so great for non-romance lovers.
