Thanks Anna, you a real one for this.
This is a very strange book, made up of a lot of disparate elements coming together to form something totally unique. “Lesbian necromancers in space” is the tagline and while that is definitely true, it is also worth noting that this book is a treasure hunt, a mystery, a sci-fi fantasy mashup and an exploration of a hundred different kinds of fucked up codependent relationships. My favourite part of this was Gideon and Harrow themselves, who span the full gamut of insane homoerotism and had me on the edge of my seat whenever they made eye contact. I won’t pretend I totally understood everything, but that’s what the rest of the series is for. My biggest complaint is (mild spoiler for the ending)the three or four fight scenes that make up the ending, I hate fight scenes to begin with but these were particularly long and overly complicated.
But these lesbians have captivated me!
